Upon completion of the four sessions, participants will have an understanding of the grief process, learn how to help themselves grieve, and have an awareness of how grief can affect many aspects of daily life.

Fans of the fan program
The individual members of the Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Shelby Electric Cooperative, the Shelby County Senior Center and the Shelbyville Wal-Mart store have teamed up to help provide fans to needy citizens this summer. The Chamber board members used their private, personal funds to purchase fans, the number of which were in turn matched with fans donated by Wal-Mart for distribution to needy residents by the Shelby County Senior Center located in Forest Park in Shelbyville. Shelby Electric Cooperative, located on North Rt. 128 in Shelbyville, and its affiliate, Direct TV located on East Rt. 16, are serving as drop-off points for either fan or financial donations from the public to help keep the program continuing throughout the remainder of the summer. Late night hope cloud
Farmers in Shelby County have looked to the skies in recent days in hopes of rainfall, and this recent night-time cloud bank illuminated by a lightning bolt brought no moisture but did provide beauty to those who enjoy a late night aerial show.

Lake Shelbyville weekend activities for July 24 - 27 Date: 23.JUL.08 As of Wednesday, July 23, 2008 the Lake Shelbyville level is 614.69 feet above sea level, which is 14.99 feet above normal summer pool. The discharge rate is set at 2,110 CFS, which is 15,825 gallons per second going into the Kaskaskia River.
The US Army Corps of Engineers will be providing free and informative programs for the whole family during July 24 through July 27.

Motorist in double-injury wreck cited for DUI Date: 22.JUL.08 Authorities have cited Patrick Demke, 19, of Oak Lawn, with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving too fast for conditions following a single-vehicle accident in which he and his passenger were seriously injured Monday evening.
Demke, and his passenger, Vanessa Arroendo, 20, also of Oak Park, each were flown in separate medical helicopters to a regional trauma center following the accident on the Lithia Springs Road just north of Rt. 16 west of Shelbyville, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident occurred at approximately 7 p.m. as Demke drove a Chevrolet Trailblazer southbound on the Lithia Springs Road. [Full story...]
A Chevrolet Trailblazer was severely damaged in a single-vehicle accident in which two persons were seriously injured and later transported by two medical emergency helicopters to Springfield Memorial Hospital.

The identity of the two occupants of the Chevrolet Trailblazer was unavailable at post time for this story.
However, the male driver indicated to medical and emergency response personnel that he is an Oak Lawn resident.
His female passenger was unresponsive when bystanders first arrived on the scene. She reportedly was unresponsive when later placed in an Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter for transportation to Springfield Memorial Medical Center. [Full story...]

Date: 22.JUL.08 The Shelbyville City Council was eco-friendly Monday night, considering plans to allow electric vehicles on city streets and expanding the General Dacey bicycle trail through the city.
The council heard a presentation from HD Supply of Mattoon about Low Speed Vehicles, small electric four-wheeled cars that have a top speed of 25 miles per hour.
Mike Rhoades of HD Supply said the battery powered vehicles are safer than golf carts or ATVs because they have lights, brake lights, turn signals and locking steering columns. [Full story...]
City Clerk Linda Voris told the Windsor City Council at its meeting Monday night that last week she spoke with an employee with Verizon Wireless.
"He said they were looking at a site to put a tower," Voris said.
For several months, Commissioner Jim Trimble -- who was absent from Monday's meeting -- had been working to get a tower closer to the city due to some "dead spots" in coverage. Part of his efforts included a petition, for which several signatures had been collected. [Full story...]
He was sentenced by agreement to one year in prison and ordered to pay court costs, according to Shelby County State's Attorney Allan Lolie, who prosecuted the case.
